The key to losing weight with Plant Based Nutrition is understanding and applying Calorie Density. Jeff Novick, RD, explains it in this helpful video clip and also this full length video. Additionally, he explains basic Plant Based Health and Nutrition in this Discussion Board.
If you're trying to lose weight we recommend Dr. John McDougall's Maximum Weight Loss Program.
To figure out calorie density use Cronometer to choose your food and select a quantity of either 16 oz or 1 lb. The calories/lb is the standard measure of caloric density. Aim to eat foods that are 600 calories/lb or less.
Critical to success are learning how to frontload meals with low calorie density foods that are saturated with moisture...like salads and soups. This allows the stomach to feel full by volume.
Dr. McDougall explains the importance of starches in this video.
Some times food can feel like an addiction and losing weight is incredibly difficult. If you find yourself in this position, we recommend watching The Pleasure Trap video or reading The Pleasure Trap book.
You will also be helped watching Dr. Doug Lisle's Cram Circuit presentation for an explanation of how our bodies become conditioned to binge and cram food.
